| X-Modem |
a file transfer protocol originated by Ward
Christensen (might not have his name spelled correctly) in the days of CP/M for
modem tranfer of files - it was a Public Domain protocol - it consists of
128-byte blocks with a simple checksum byte and an ACK/NAK handshake - in the
days of 300-baud modems, this was quite impressive! - and, since each block is
a fixed length, binary data can be sent without converting it to a readable

| XGA |
Extended Graphics Adapter or Array - The
definition varies (as well as the name) depending which book you read but it is
roughly 1024 × 768 in lots of colours! |
| XTV |
the result of a collaboration between Pace and
NDS, XTV is an integrated digital set-top box that includes a large amount of
local storage - the smart software within XTV selects and stores programmes
that the viewer is likely to want to watch, by interpreting meta-data inserted
by the broadcaster at the head-end and comparing it with viewer preferences -
in addition, XTV enables personalised playout so that the menu of both live and
the stored content are in the order most likely to match the viewer's taste and
habits |
